I’m sharing my weight loss success story in this Nutrisystem review to both share my journey and give encouragement, inspiration, and valuable insight for anyone who is searching for an easy and inexpensive weight loss program. Nutrisystem has changed my life for the better, and I know it will change yours too.
I am Margie and This Is My Nutrisystem Weight Loss Review
I’m 49 years old, and I live in the gorgeous state of West Virginia. I am happily married and also have a beautiful son. I enjoy my job as an office manager for a small legal firm. I was more than a little overweight, but I have slimmed down recently with the help of Nutrisystem.
I’m utterly delighted with how well the Nutrisystem program works and I just need to share it with all of you. This is my personal story about how Nutrisystem transformed me. I think you’ll find it one of the most compelling Nutrisystem reviews you may ever come across.
You may ask: can Nutrisystem work for everybody? After all, everybody is different, and not everyone can expect the same results. Hopefully, my story will help answer your questions and I can help somebody else trying to overcome weight problems.
How it all started
As a young woman, I never worried about my weight. I was actually underweight for my height! In fact, when I got married at age 21, I was only 105 lbs and I swam in a size zero dress! Then it all changed when I hit my 30’s. It was depressing how my weight seemed to increase every month.
Then, it happened; my son left for college. The worry and stress started my problem with binge eating.
I won’t lie, I love to eat. I could easily gorge on fried food and sweets. Sadly, this meant that every time I went shopping for clothes, I had to settle for ever-larger sizes.
I Was Depressed and Unhealthy
The constant weight gain finally started causing me significant health problems.
Although I was never ill, I did feel heavy and sluggish, I had no energy for exercise, and I was always fatigued. Finally – my knees and hips started to give out. Eventually, my legs hurt so much that it was uncomfortable for me to enjoy walking any distance outside my home.
It got worse; I started experiencing horrible acid reflux. Sleeping became difficult because I was so uncomfortable due to the excess weight and I suffered from throbbing chest pains.
I developed all the signs of poor circulation in my limbs. My self-esteem was non-existent, and I was convinced that I could never be petite again. I‘d frequently tell myself “I’m going to be happy, fat, and love myself anyway.” Of course, that isn’t what happened. I was always miserable (except when I was stuffing myself, of course).
It became painfully apparent that I needed to go on a diet. Since diabetes runs in my family, I was certain that I was well on my way down that path. I was so certain that I started a new diet that Monday, I said: “I’m going to start dieting Monday.” And I did. Every Monday I tried different diets on my own. I tried cutting carbs, starches, and just cutting calories.
I Failed Other Diets Because I was Always Hungry
Every diet I tried became boring and was a waste of time anyway since after initial results they rarely delivered on their promised weight loss. So when the weekend came around, I went back to my horribly bad eating habits. But that was OK because “I can start over on Monday, right?” The scale eventually hit 175 lbs., I was mortified to be wearing a size 12. I’d often joke with my husband by saying he’s got two wives in one!
I Decided to Change Back to the Girl my Husband Married.
It was April 1, 2015 (I know, April Fool’s day, ha-ha). I casually mentioned to my husband that I wanted to give Nutrisystem a try. I wanted to be sure it would work before committing all the way by ordering online. I was skeptical because no other diets I tried worked.
I drove straight to the local Walmart and bought a Nutrisystem five-day weight loss kit which consisted of 15 entrees and 5 desserts. I desperately wished, “If I could just lose 10 lbs. I’d be happy”.
I won’t lie; it was embarrassing as I waddled through the store with my box of Nutrisystem. I damn sure didn’t feel like I was Marie Osmond as I was draped in oversize sweats and a tent sized shirt. I swore people were gaping as I exited the store. “Is Nutrisystem going to work?” I thought, chucked the box in the trunk and drove home.
I glanced at my husband, and I said: “I will do this.” This time, he didn’t just believe me – he made the choice to join me as I dieted. My man wanted to support my efforts. The first thing was to remove tempting foods from the house. This was a huge help. There would be no temptations, no backsliding (this time).
The Women’s Core Plan Is What I Chose
One month later the diet thing was easier since I no longer craved foods like before. My cravings weren’t totally gone there was no challenge in walking away from a piece of cake or pizza. I enjoyed my own Nutrisystem treats like chocolate, pizza, potatoes, muffins and much more. I wasn’t deprived of any of my favorite foods.
One day I stepped on my scales and grinned as I saw I lost 10 lbs in a month.
I finally earned a Nutribear! Nutrisystem awards dieters a bear for every 10 lbs they lose.
Upon receiving my first food order, I quickly opened the Nutrisystem box and read the guidelines I must follow to reach my goal. Whoa! Do I have a goal? I had never considered setting any weight loss goals; I just thought I would lose “some” weight. I began to feel a little pessimistic.
Come morning I poured my usual cup of coffee as I sat down to a (tiny) Nutrisystem muffin and a whole glass of fusion energy juice. It was horrible – I was hungry all day.
It happened that I didn’t follow the instructions that said I need to add healthy snacks between meals along with four servings of vegetables.
Nutrisystem labels the snacks as either Power Fuels or Smart Carbs. Your Nutrisystem kit includes a list of these types of foods and the servings allowed for each one. After I (re)read the Nutrisystem diet guidelines, I thought I was going to eat too much. Honestly, I don’t eat this much when I’m not on a diet. Truthfully, I was just eating the wrong foods to achieve any weight loss at all.
Starting the second day: I had a slight headache, but I felt better after a glass of water and some breakfast. I began adding healthy snacks between meals like avocado, yogurt, and even mixed nuts. The days became easier. Come the third day of following the plan (a considerable accomplishment, believe me); I was feeling more energy and the bloating was subsiding.
Does Nutrisystem Show Results Quickly?
At the end of my first week, I managed to drop 6 lbs! Of course, success motivated me to try another Nutrisystem week. Time passed, and I stuck to the Nutrisystem program. So, how long will it take Nutrisystem to work? It will work from the first couple of days.
Every day I drank at least 64 oz of water and performed light exercise, which for me was twenty minutes of hula hooping. By relying on my new Fitbit, I set a goal to reach 9000 steps per day. I installed the MyfitnessPal app to maintain a record of my daily calorie intake. I was able to make new friends at a Nutrisystem support group who were trying for the same goals. We encouraged each other and shared food diaries and our Nutrisystem diet reviews. Even the few of us that were using fitbit’s shared our goals and results with each other. We commended each other on our achievements and failures. It was a fun way to keep on track.
I won’t lie, the weekends were difficult as we went to our favorite restaurants. I would order from the Lite menu and A La Carte. The worst part was staring at the chips and dip at the Mexican place. Sometimes I had to sit on my hands. My God, but the struggle was incredible.
By week 2 it was getting easier. I decided on a goal of losing 30 lbs. I desperately wanted to get into a new outfit. I continued buying my Nutrisystem meals by the week at Walmart. Wondering if Walmart Nutrisystem works? It did for me.
I began looking forward to the next meal. I felt hungry sometimes between meals, but this is when I’d snack on things like nuts, kale chips, and nonfat yogurt.
I also bought some Nutrisystem shakes to drink between meals. They’re yummy and will kill that hungry feeling and cravings. 2 lbs was all I lost the second week (but I still lost weight).
I Got Healthier
By week number 3, my health began improving. I didn’t suffer from heartburn and acid reflux anymore. I felt comfortable again, and I was still losing weight. By now it was the longest I’ve stayed with a diet. Now, I was sure this was the right diet, and I was ready to keep trying. I finally purchased meals through Nutrisystem.com. Online I communicated with a representative about plan and payment options. She was very helpful as she assisted me to make my first order.
Once I signed up as a member, I found tools on the website that made it easier to achieve my goals. I simply entered my height, weight, and how many pounds I needed to drop and it gave me a calorie goal. Eating 1200 calories a day I would achieve my weight loss goal of 30 lbs.
It’s an Emotional Struggle
Changing my eating habits wasn’t the only struggle. To be successful, I had to give up my old foods and outings with my friends. I refused invites since this would start my binge eating and they couldn’t understand.
It happened while exercising and listening to music; I started to become emotional and lonely. It felt like everybody had left me. Even my overweight friends snubbed me! I’d hear negative comments sometimes. Even people at work picked on me. I’d hear them make comments that I wasn’t eating enough and they would drop cookies and donuts on my desk while saying “you need this” or “just have one.” I’d chuck it in the garbage and go on with my workday.
Worse, there were family members and some friends that would continuously attempt to convince me that there was no need to lose weight and I was just fine as I was. They could be judgmental too. I’d hear things like “should you have this? Then there is always someone that would say I’m skinny and need to stop dieting. Saying someone is skinny can be as hurtful as calling somebody fat!
Otherwise, my spouse and son were my best fans on this journey. My hubby continued complimenting me on how attractive I looked and how proud he was for me. He also never complained about not going out to eat like we used to or that I didn’t cook meals. He even pushed me to keep exercising and eating healthy.
I was on an emotional rollercoaster. But by reading other people’s experiences and great reviews of the Nutrisystem Turbo 13 diet, I was encouraged and inspired.
Two Months Later and Wow!
15 lbs gone and 2 inches melted off my waist. On occasion, there were weeks when I didn’t lose a pound, but I lost inches.
It was horrible, due to some family money problems I was scared that I would have to stop my Nutrisystem food orders. The irony is that for one person the costs are pretty reasonable but I have a family and there is more than one person in the house to buy groceries for. Then, shockingly, I found out my health insurance provides savings with Nutrisystem. Better, there were more saving options as well, like Nutrisystem promo codes for existing customers.
By the month 3, I lost more weight and people began to notice. I started getting lots of compliments.I looked through old pictures and compared them with my latest shots so I could make a “reveal” photo.”Wow,I had not realized the difference a few pounds could make until I put those pics side by side. I just had to clean out my closet and bin all the size 12’s and huge old clothes. By now the size 10’s were ridiculously loose.
A Real Sweet Treat – New Jeans Two Sizes Smaller
My gross size 12 clothes were too big. True, I was enjoying the loose feel, but it was unavoidable; I needed new clothes.
I grabbed a few jeans in a size 10, and also one in size 8 (For fun, I thought), I rushed to the dressing rooms. I know I squealed when I squeezed into the size eights! I did buy some exercise pants to walk around in also. Know what, I walked out wearing the size eights! I Looked Good! Soon as I got home, I grabbed those jeans in my closet and took a mirror selfie. I made it to half way, and I knew I would lose the whole 30 lbs.
By the 10th week, I was still reveling in all the delicious food and great health benefits of the Nutrisystem plan. But I still had ten pounds to drop to reach my weight loss goal, but then I began to get discouraged.
Suddenly my weight loss had slowed. I gained a pound! Although I was warned this could happen – I couldn’t help but feel sad. People had mentioned the Nutrisystem Plateau but I didn’t think it would happen to me.
And then I realized it wasn’t that bad. I averaged a 1 to 2 lbs weight loss which was healthy and normal. I decided that I would measure myself instead of using the scale.
I’m a Size Eight! Yippee!
This is me after losing 21 lbs on Nutrisystem
I bagged up my “fat” clothes and asked my husband to burn them. It felt awesome as this was my way of saying, “I’m not going back to be that size again.” This weight loss finally became real to me.
Is Nutrisystem Food Good?
Nutrisystem food is Fantastic and There is So Much To Choose From!
Each month I’d log into my Nutrisystem account and examine the menu options. I’d choose 28 foods for each of my four daily meals including breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Choosing is easy as I love almost all the food they have.
Does Nutrisystem Food Taste Good?
The plan I use, which is the Core plan, included only the shelf foods and no frozen varieties.
I’ve enjoyed every meal I ate except two. I hate anything with sausage. Most importantly, I never felt deprived.
Nutrisystem Strawberry Frosted Doughnut
I enjoyed yummy foods such like doughnuts, pancakes, muffins, pizza, hamburger, chicken and cake or brownies. With all these choices, it can never get boring.
Nutrisystem chicken noodle soup
The shelf items with meats are handily packed in vacuum sealed wrap but were always tender and tasted like they were straight out of a deli. With all the varieties, I managed to eat something different every day of the week.
Nutrisystem beef with mashed potatoes
You Can’t Call This Diet Food.
It’s just scientifically pre-portioned food to keep you on the path to help. It is really a lot of the attractive food options that I ate that got me fat. The big difference is that it is portion control so that I can enjoy the stuff I like without putting on the pounds.
How is the Nutritional Value of Nutrisystem Food
It really is, they work on a balance of 50% of the calories from low-glycemic, good carbs, 25% of the calories from protein and 20% from fat. In additiona they encourage supplementing with healthy fruits and vegetables too. Check out this article from a registered dietittian with respect to the food available from Nutrisystem.
Why Is Nutrisystem So Effective?
Like you will likely read in other Nutrisystem diet plan reviews, taste isn’t the only thing fantastic about the Nutrisystem diet. Every meal is individually wrapped and includes detailed cooking instructions making it easy to toss one in my purse and off to work I go.
Many of the Nutrisystem meals are easy to eat even in your car. A favorite thing about Nutrisystem meals is that I don’t have to figure out what I’m going to eat every day. Since the meals are portion controlled, the guess work is taken out of measuring or weighing what to eat, and I’m too busy to be bothered.
Nutrisystem Has Taught Me How to Make Healthier Food Choices.
People talking about a pound cake they baked the other night or watching food videos on Facebook no longer fazes me. I no longer go to all-you-can-eat buffets and bakery shops. And I absolutely do not have the desire for those places anymore. Suddenly, it’s so easy to refuse fattening foods.
The diet plan encourages healthy snacking habits and eating often which is a key method in loosing weight. Since the moment I started the Nutrisystem diet I followed their guidelines for supplementing my ordered food with fruits and vegetables that helped suprres my hunger cravings.
Was I a Cheater?
Honestly, that’s the hardest at times. Now I can say I have control.
The first real trial I had to face was a church breakfast and a family dinner that night. While I let myself enjoy the foods that were there – Nutrisystem showed me the foods to stay clear of, and how what a proper portion looks like. I got to enjoy some bacon, a piece of rhubarb pie and a Hershey’s Kiss.
The day after that, I was scared to step on the scales. Surprisingly, I didn’t gain a single pound. As it turned out, I lost a few ounces.
A couple of weeks later, I had my birthday, and you know what that’s like. I had some cake but only a small slice. I attended a few family cookouts and my nephew’s wedding. It was an appreciable struggle, but thanks to Nutrisystem, I have finally learned to eat normal portions. My hardest struggle was with everybody attempting to make me eat more.
Everyone thinks that once you have lost some weight, it’s OK to go back to the eating patterns that made you fat to begin with. Dieting doesn’t work like that. You must make a lifestyle change, and you must be consistent. Of course, I wanted to have seconds, but I resisted and left the table feeling like Super Girl.
And let me tell you about my trip to the beach! When I’m sitting on the beach, I have to eat. It’s always cookies or muffins – but I changed my routine this time. I nibbled lots of veggies and managed to feel good about myself.
My Body Changed for the Better
I started to feel better. What I mean is I had more energy and was quicker to be active with both my daily routine and when it came to doing stuff with my son. I don’t have to hide behind baggy clothes anymore. I enjoyed wearing that bikini on the beach, and I’m having fun buying sexy, new clothes in a size 4! I feel like a kid in her 20’s, and I love feeling sexy around my husband again.
25 Pounds Have Melted Off
The rate of weight loss has slowed down to an average of a pounr or two per week. I know, it’s better than gaining a pound a week, but I wanted to drop more weight quicker.
I picked up the phone and spoke to one of the Nutrisystem counselors. I was told that I was doing fine and to continue doing what I was doing and made sure I ate all the foods on the plan. My meal schedule involved eating every three hours. Six (small) Nutrisystem meals per day and I add 4 servings of vegetables to that. It can appear to be a large amount of food but keep in mind that the snacks are pretty small. We’re talking a tablespoon of nuts or a small piece of cheese. But it’s small amounts of very healthy food.
I Landed on the Nutrisystem Plateau
My weight loss progress has stalled for a few weeks. I was advised that this would likely occur, but it was still discouraging. Again, I ran to the phone and called my Nutrisystem counselor. Those counselors are always helpful. The counselor I spoke to advised me to shake things up a bit. “You can try switching your dinner choice for lunch and eat your lunch choice for dinner.” I was also advised to eat just eat more. “Try adding an extra 100 calories to your daily quota.” She also told me to ensure I drank enough water during the day. So I followed her advice. Guess what? My weight loss restarted and the weight started falling away again.
Who Could Have Guessed That More Can Be Less
It bothered me that I couldn’t sit down to a shared meal with my husband, but it’s not an issue anymore since he’s fine with just eating a salad while I dive into a delicious Nutrisystem pizza (and the pizza is positively amazing!).
I haven’t stopped enjoying the selection of Nutrisystem meals, and I have never gotten tired eating any of the meals. I have creative ways of adding vegetables to the meals, such as putting spinach or olives on my Nutrisystem pizza or eating spaghetti squash with my savory Nutrisystem meatballs. All it takes is a little imagination.
Weekends On My Own
Once I had been on the Nutrisystem plan for a total of 6 months, I chose to switch my plan over to “weekends on my own,” or “weekends off.” Did Nutrisystem weekends off still work? I can say that it does because I didn’t put weight back on. Using weekends off, I chose 20 days of meals instead of my usual 28 (now I’m left to fend for myself two days out of the week).
Is Nutrisystem A Long Term Solution?
Gosh darn it! Yes! I reached my goal!It took me 7 months to achieve my goal. I am so proud of myself, and my self-esteem is better than since I was in my 20’s. It was my intention to finally transition off the Nutrisystem plan; I had to learn to choose my own foods that are equal to Nutrisystem meals.
It Took 7 Months to Lose 39 Pounds and Go From A Size 12 Down to A Size 6
I can tell you that it took truckloads of dedication and discipline to go from where I was to where I am.
I Don’t Think Nutrisystem Would Have Been So Effective Without the Support
My husband is my most steady support. With the help of my Husband and Nutrisystem counselors, it was like having my own private coach and gourmet chef. I am so much healthier than I was and I’m anxious to face everything ahead with a brighter outlook. The positive effects of weight loss keep making my life better.
The Health Benefits of Nutrisystem
It wouldn’t be a good review if I didn’t outline all of the health benefits that I am not experiencing after my success on the Nutrisystem weight loss plan. I have tried to enumerate a the benefits as best I could below but I am sure that I am missing something:
- No more heartburn or acid reflux
- My energy levels are through the roof!
- My self-esteem is back to normal
- I can sleep well again
- My breathing is easier
- My cravings are gone; I want healthy foods.
- Lots of loose skin (sigh).
- I drink water instead of soda or juice
- I sit on a couch, and there is room for my husband
- I stopped sweating all the time
- Avoiding junk food is easy
- I have trouble finding clothes small enough for me (yippee!)
- No more chafing
- My joint pain has gone completely.
- I simply feel healthy (and sexy).
For the first time at my yearly check-up, the doctor didn’t lecture me. She was shocked by my improvement. She asked me how I managed to lose the weight and she said she’ll suggest the Nutrisystem diet to other (overweight) patients. My vital signs were spot on and my even my blood tests came back perfect.
How Expensive is Nutrisystem?
The most important concern people have about the Nutrisystem Lean 13 plan is how much it costs. In the beginning, I said the same thing, and then I did some basic math.
Now I tell people, “Add up what you spend on food each month.” I can’t speak for anybody else, but most of the food I purchased every month usually was wasted or waisted. Nutrisystem food is neither.
On the other hand, there are ways to minimize the cost. Don’t let the non-discounted prices you see on the the nutrisystem website shock you. Nutrisystem customer service representatives are always available to assist you and locate the best Nutrisystem plan that’s right for your needs. The representatives are kind, polite, and very knowledgeable. In the end, I paid an average of $209 per month with Nutrisystem.
Let me tell you some of the ways I saved:
- Using my health Insurance, I got a good discount. My Blue Cross Blue Shield gave me an added 12% off every month on all my Nutrisystem orders. I made sure to use the Blue 365 program.
- Locate someone who is already using the Nutrisystem system and ask for a “Buddy Bucks” coupon. A “Buddy Bucks” coupon code is something they can send to your email. Ask for it! You can easily find these people using Nutrisystem’s Facebook and Twitter pages. You can save thirty dollars.
- To top it off, you’re able to communicate with a Nutrisystem counselor; they always have a special promotion you can take advantage of.
There is also no better motivation than paying for your diet. When you’re paying for it, you’re going to stay with it. But there is a decided downside to losing weight…. It’s expensive to replace your whole wardrobe!
Nothing Works like Nutrisystem!

Maintain Your Weight Loss!
It’s been easy to keep the weight off using Nutrisystem’s maintenance program.
I don’t have to get a month’s supply of meals sent to my door anymore. I’ve learned to choose the right foods on my own, but I still order some of the Nutrisystem meals from their A La Carte menu to keep me on the right track.
So now I walk three miles every day and I still hula hoop when I have some extra energy to burn.
Tips for Nutrisystem Dieters
Simply do not ever give up. Maintain a positive attitude; just think you can, and you will. An important thing I learned is to drink a lot of water and keep eating those green veggies (and not all carbs are fattening).
Become a Nutristar!
Nutrisystem tells everyone to take their own “before and after” photo and keeping a detailed journal of their individual weight loss journey because there is a chance you can become a Nutrisystem “Nutristar” and get to participate in your own Nutrisystem photo shoot.
I found out that the people that on those Nutrisystem ads are genuine. How do I know? I was one of the lucky few picked this past year!
Conclusion: Succeeding With Nutrisystem Is Possible
Is the Nutrisystem diet plan worth doing? Yes! I will continue to be a proud member of the Nutristar success team and I will enjoy all the benefits they offer to me.
I understand that you might have run into some poor reviews of Nutrisystem and it may disappoint you. But, I can tell you truthfully that this diet saved my life and made me a better person, and it did the same for more than a million other dieters (really, that is actually how many!).
Even better, I no longer have to diet; Instead, I’ve learned a new way of life.
I sincerely hope my Nutrisystem review has helped you.
